Doctoral Student
Biography
I am a Nutritionist (RD) with a 20-year career in Public Health, including eight years with the Region of Waterloo.
For many years I have promoted and written about community food security, with an emphasis on the food localization movement and policies that promote a healthy, sustainable food system, fair incomes for food producers, and improved consumer access to nutritious food.
Organization Description
Currently, I am pursuing a PhD in Geography and Environmental Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University.
Current Projects
My doctoral research is focusing on the links between the food environment and people’s eating habits, or how aspects of "place" affect health.
I am also interested in the potential power of "civil society", or the process by which people with diverse occupations but common interests can learn from each other and work together towards a specific goal.
Areas of Specialization
  • Academics/researchers specializing in food system issues
  • Health professionals
