[WRFoodNews] April 24-09 Waterloo Region Food System update

Please find below the latest update on Waterloo Region's food system as
described on the website of the Waterloo Region Food System Roundtable at
www.wrfoodsystem.ca.

1. 2nd Draft of Regional Official Plan (ROP) released - including major
revisions to the Access to Healthy Food section.  See the new food-related
language and some initial comments by two Roundtable members at
http://www.wrfoodsystem.ca/index.php?p=forum/view_thread&thread_id=10219.
A public meeting will be held on May 12 and 13 to hear comments on the new
draft, and Council will consider a final draft in June.  A workgroup of the
Roundtable will be meeting next Wednesday to discuss what comments, if any,
to make on the new draft, so if you wish to give input to that process,
please add your comments on the Discussion Forum or contact me.

2. Mother Jones article on Local and Sustainable food 

This article was circulated at a recent Roundtable meeting, and I think it's an excellent
analysis of efforts to change the food system.  See my post on it on our

3. Upcoming Food Events
Full details on upcoming food-related events in Waterloo Region can be

     Community Garden Fest - May 2, 10am-3pm, 2631 Kingsway Dr, Kitchener
