1. Food Summit videos available
The last of the videos produced at the Food Summit have been added to the website of the Waterloo Region Food System Roundtable, including the presentations made by The STOP's Kathryn Scharf and agricultural policy analyst Elbert Van Donkersgoed. DVD copies of all the video coverage from the Summit may be purchased for $10 by emailing the Roundtable.
2. Registration opens for Bring Food Home conference
Kitchener is going to be the host of a provincial conference on food issues March 4-6, 2010. The final program is still being developed, but Joel Salatin of Polyface Farms (featured in Michael Pollan's Omnivore's Dilemma and recent movie Food Inc. has been confirmed as a keynote speaker. 3. Students dreaming up student-run cafe
Students at the University of Waterloo who attended the Waterloo Region Food Summit are trying to start a cafe that would serve sustainable foods on-campus. To hear more about the idea and contribute your thoughts, see the discussion thread on the Roundtable's Discussion Forum.
4. New Course on Exploring Your New Farm Dream
Thinking about starting your own farm business? Want to learn more about the opportunities and realities of farming? This course is designed to help aspiring farmers learn what it takes to start and manage a commercial agricultural business. Led by Angie Koch of Fertile Ground CSA. Course consists of 4 evening sessions (Feb 10, 17, March 3, and 10) and day-long farm tour on Ferbruary 20th.
