1. Public Event TOMORROW: Genetically Modified Food
What are the benefits and risks of genetic modification? Why do so many reject this technology, while proponents insist it is essential to feed the world? What alarm bells have Canadian consumers missed about this oversold, underperforming technology? Presenter Dr. Ann Clark is an Associate Professor in Plant Agriculture at the University of Guelph and coordinates the university's Organic Agriculture program. 2. Metcalfe Foundation releases 5 Research Papers on Ontario's Food System
Five new reports by the Metcalfe Foundation collectively present bold solutions to our "broken food system". The first report, Menu 2020, gives a high-level overview of the other four, presenting ten solutions for our food system including supporting agricultural innovation, bringing back the local food processing sector, supporting urban agriculture, and creating synamic food centres to support food access for all.
